Turkeys that will be pardoned by Trump check in at luxury Washington hotel

The turkeys set to be pardoned by President Trump during the White House’s annual Thanksgiving festivities have arrived at the Willard InterContinental Hotel in Washington.

The White House posted images of the National Thanksgiving Turkey and the alternate bird checking into the luxury hotel on social media Sunday.

The National Turkey Federation, the organization that raises and donates the animals, also covers the cost of their lodgings, a White House spokeswoman said in a statement.

The names of the two birds will be announced on Monday ahead of the ceremony on Tuesday.

Suggestions for names have been made by Minnesota school children, given that the turkeys were bred as part of the “presidential flock” at NTF chairman Carl Wittenburg’s farm near Alexandria, Minn.

President Trump’s inaugural Thanksgiving at the White House marks the 70th year since the NTF first donated a bird to then-President Harry Truman in 1947.
