Woman killed in Loudoun crash

Virginia State Police are investigating a Wednesday morning crash that killed a 53-year-old woman in Loudoun County.

Police said the crash happened at about 6:15 a.m., when Chevrolet pick-up truck driving north on Route 15 near Tail Race Road crossed into the southbound lanes, striking a Ford van and Nissan pick-up.

The Chevrolet driver, Carol R. Wooten, of Ashburn, was killed, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

The Nissan driver, 43-year-old Arturo Pineda, of Brunswick, Md., was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. The Ford driver, who was not identified, was unharmed. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

The cause of the crash still is under investigation.
