Sen. Ted Cruz, a Texas Republican, mocked the Democratic Party on Tuesday by responding to actress Jane Fonda’s tweet about “ethically harvested” jewelry.
Fonda tweeted a photo of herself Monday wearing jewelry from the Oscars the night before, giving Cruz the opportunity to rip both Hollywood and Democrats.
“At Oscars wearing Pomellato jewelry because it only uses responsible, ethically harvested gold and sustainable diamonds. #Oscars,” Fonda tweeted.

Cruz responded to the tweet the next day, saying, “’Ethically harvested gold & diamonds’ is the new Democratic Party motto.”

Fonda swore off buying new clothing back in November while attending one of her “Fire Drill Fridays” protests, which sought to raise awareness for climate change. When the Oscars rolled around, she showed that she recycled an old awards dress and matched it with “ethically harvested” jewelry.
This wasn’t the first tweet Cruz sent out about Democrats and the Oscars.
He responded to a tweet that Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg sent congratulating Oscar nominees, musing, “Can you imagine if the Iowa Democratic Party were in charge of tabulating the results?”

The Oscars highlighted many Hollywood elites’ activist views, including Joaquin Phoenix warning of the “egocentric” nature of humans for drinking cow’s milk.
