WATCH: Shannon Bream finds hope in biblical story amid Ukraine war

The emotional toll of the images of war-torn Ukraine is not amiss from Fox News @ Night anchor Shannon Bream. However, she has found hope in the biblical story of Mary, the mother of Jesus.

“A lot of people forget that when Jesus was just a baby, really a toddler we think at this point, God came to Joseph in a dream and told them they were in grave danger because King Herod wanted to kill baby Jesus,” Bream said in a video posted to her Facebook account.

Bream shared an excerpt about Joseph, Mary, and Jesus’s travels from her newest book, The Mothers and Daughters of the Bible Speak: Lessons on Faith from Nine Biblical Families.

“Their journey would have been long and exhausting,” Bream said. “The young family, probably leaving their native land for the first time, set out across the rugged plains of Sinai carrying a toddler trudging through thirst and weariness across the expanse of sand and rugged hills.”

“What about the mother who flees the chaos of a collapsing country or the poverty or violence that is threatening her child’s life,” Bream said. “She is journeying on a path that Mary and Jesus knew.”

Bream reminded viewers there was no way for her to foresee the horrific war in Ukraine while writing, but she added that she believes the book’s message is fitting and she finds hope for those struggling in the country.

“God is involved in every part of this journey,” she said. “He is as interested in the details of your struggle, or the struggle of these men and women in Ukraine, as he was the plight of Mary and Joseph all those centuries ago.”

She encouraged viewers to pray because “God is not unaware of fear and suffering, and he wants to meet you in that, to guide you, to help you.”
