US Capitol Police arrest 15 in Kavanaugh protests on Friday

Fifteen people were arrested for unlawfully demonstrating because of their actions during the Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearing Friday for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, the U.S. Capitol Police announced.

Those arrested were taken from Hart Senate Office Building’s committee room and were subsequently charged with disorderly conduct, according to USCP spokeswoman Eva Malecki.

The Friday arrests come on the heels of a series of arrests made by the U.S. Capitol Police this week in connection to the Senate’s hearings for Kavanaugh, including 73 protesters on Wednesday and 69 people on Thursday.

In total, U.S. Capitol Police have arrested more than 200 protesters who have disrupted the hearings.

Kavanaugh is the second Supreme Court justice President Trump has nominated. Neil Gorsuch was Trump’s first pick; he was confirmed to the seat left by the late Justice Antonin Scalia.

Trump slammed the protests against Kavanaugh earlier this week, and described them as “an embarrassment,” according to the Daily Caller.
