Adoptive mother charged with neglect after missing daughter found dead

The adoptive mother of a 13-year-old developmentally disabled girl whose body was found in Woodbridge has been charged with child neglect and filing a false police report, Prince William County police said.

Police said it’s likely Alfreedia Gregg-Glover, 45, of Manassas, will be charged with other crimes as the investigation develops. Police are unsure when Gregg-Glover adopted Alexis.

Gregg-Glover reported her daughter, Alexis Glover, missing on Jan. 7, after she said the girl disappeared from her side in the Manassas Central Library parking lot. Police found the girl’s Global Positioning System bracelet nearby. Glover had run away several times before and police had equipped her with the GPS bracelet to track her.

Police have said it’s unclear why Alexis repeatedly ran away, and because of her severe disabilities, it’s unlikely the 13-year-old would have been able to give a reason.

A wide-reaching search for the girl ended two days later when a Woodbridge resident discovered Glover’s body on Friday in a two-foot deep creek about eight miles from where she was last seen.

After police examined Glover’s body, they ruled her death a homicide. Police released a surveillance video Tuesday showing Glover walking away from the parking lot alone. In the evening, detectives searched Gregg-Glover’s home and left with bags of evidence. Hours later, they took Gregg-Glover into custody.

Police said Wednesday that Glover’s body was placed in the creek bed the day she disappeared and before her disappearance was reported. Police declined to release further details.

Gregg-Glover reported her daughter missing around 12:30 p.m. Jan. 7; the time stamp on the surveillance video shows Glover walking away from the parking lot at 11:15 a.m.

“The mystery surrounding the disappearance of Lexie Glover has been solved,” Prince William County Police Chief Charlie Deane said.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Paul Ebert said, “it’s likely more charges are coming once the investigation is completed.”

Gregg-Glover is being held without bail.
