The Judith P. Hoyer Foundation, a nonprofit named after the late wife of Rep. Steny Hoyer, will celebrate at a luncheon today its partnerships with health and family support service providers.

The foundation runs 24 Judy Centers throughout Maryland that educate nearly 8,000 young and disadvantaged children, and will present awards to two centers for their successful partnerships with local organizations.

The Carroll County Judy Center earned the Most Improved Partnership Award for its countywide expansion of the Parents As Teachers program. The program mentors parents and educates them about early brain development so they know what to expect during each stage of their child’s development.

The Montgomery County-Gaithersburg center will receive the Innovative Spirit Award.

Judith Hoyer, supervisor of early childhood education for Prince George’s County, died in 1997. The centers began opening soon afterward.
