It’s “disappointing” that Republicans are going ahead with Georgia Rep. Tom Price’s confirmation hearing despite ethical concerns over his stock trading, a top Democrat said Wednesday morning.
“It is disappointing to us that … Republicans are moving ahead with your nomination before we have all the facts,” Rep. Patty Murray, the top Democrat of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, told Price. “I hope you have come fully prepared to be fully transparent with us in your explanation.”
Price appeared Wednesday morning before the HELP Committee for his confirmation hearing to head the Department of Health and Human Services. Democrats have called for his confirmation to be delayed because of recent reports that Price tried to advance legislation specifically helping companies he had invested in.
Murray also laid out a litany of concerns about how Price would lead HHS, including his opposition to the Affordable Care Act and to abortion. She also said she has questions about how he would approach the issue of high drug prices, which President-elect Trump has said is a top priority.
