Hy-Vee to join other grocery stores closed on Thanksgiving

Hy-Vee stores will close on Thanksgiving for the first time in its 92-year history.

The grocery chain announced that more than 285 of its locations will join other grocery stores in allowing employees to enjoy the holiday.

“Thanksgiving Day is about gratitude. The last several years have been some of the most challenging our employees have experienced and this is our way of showing our appreciation for everything they do on a daily basis to serve our customers,” Hy-Vee CEO and President Jeremy Gosch said in a statement. “By closing our stores on Thanksgiving Day, we can give back to our employees by providing them time to focus on their own celebrations.”

Hy-Vee announced its grocery stores will be closed for the first time in its 92-year history, this Thanksgiving 2022.


Hy-Vee’s gas stations will still be open for customers to pay for fuel on Thanksgiving Day. Customers who purchase holiday meal packs from Hy-Vee will also be able to get curbside pick-up on Thanksgiving from 8-11 a.m. or prior to the holiday.

Aldi, Publix, and Trader Joe’s are among other grocery stores to be closed on Thanksgiving.

Major retailers Kohl’s, Best Buy, and Target also announced they will close on Thanksgiving this year.
