A U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent in Texas is suspected of killing four women and abducting a fifth.
Authorities say the man, Juan David Ortiz, was arrested Saturday morning, the Associated Press reported.
The district attorney in Webb County, Isidro Alaniz, said authorities were led to the suspect after a woman he attempted to kidnap escaped.
State troopers arrested Ortiz after finding him hiding in the parking lot of a Laredo hotel.
Alaniz said all four women killed worked as prostitutes, but it is still unclear what Ortiz’s motives were for murdering them.
Customs and Border Patrol offered the friends and families of the victims condolences, reported the Associated Press. While the agency typically does not comment on an ongoing investigation, “criminal activity by our employees is not, and will not be tolerated,” AP reported.
