Clinton book author: conflicts a ‘dangerous cocktail’

There’s enough evidence that Hillary Clinton traded political favors for cash to warrant further investigation, the author of a forthcoming book on Clinton transactions insisted Sunday.

Peter Schweizer gave his first-ever interview about his new book Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Help Make Bill and Hillary Rich to Fox News Sunday.

Set to be released May 5, the book makes a case that foreign entities received favors from the state department while Hillary Clinton was head of it, in return for hefty speaking fees and donations to the Clintons’ foundation. The questions it raises are likely to plague Clinton as she seeks the presidency for the second time.

“I’m looking at patterns of behavior and patterns of conduct of funds, and I’m saying this warrants further investigation,” Schweizer told host Chris Wallace.

Pressed by Wallace, Schweizer admitted he wasn’t able to obtain any hard evidence that Clinton intentionally granted political favors in order for herself, her husband or her foundation to benefit financially.

What his book does uncover, Schweizer said, is a pattern of events where Clinton supporters or foreign entities paid Bill for speeches or donated to the foundation and “favorable actions” ensued. Schweizer says that’s not a coincidence.

He detailed one example of how, as Russian sought a majority share of Uranium One, the chairman of the leading uranium producer donated to the Clinton foundation and Bill Clinton was paid more than $500,000 for a speech to a Russian investment bank with ties to the Kremlin.

“I think it creates a very dangerous cocktail as far as conflicts of interest are concerned,” he said.

A Clinton campaign spokesman tried to discredit the book this week, calling it a “smear project.”

After Schweizer left the set, Wallace was joined by former Clinton White House counsel Lanny Davis, who also defended the Clintons. He insisted that Schweizer’s findings are a coincidence — just as roosters happen to crow around the time the sun rises but don’t cause it.

He said the book is “unfair smoke blown that is totally missing all the good works the Clinton Foundation as done throughout the years.”
