A clear majority of U.S. adults believe President Trump has been too friendly to Russia, and only one-third think he’s been able to find a healthy balance as he deals with Vladimir Putin, according to a poll released Friday afternoon.
Fifty-seven percent of U.S. adults surveyed Aug. 9-12 said Trump has been too nice, a CNN poll found. Additionally, 41 percent of people think Putin’s government is a real threat to America, the highest percentage in almost two decades.
By comparison, 59 percent call North Korea an enemy. Polling company SSRS, which conducted CNN’s survey, said the numbers reflect growing fears among Democratic respondents.
The majority of Americans are not happy with Trump’s foreign policy. Two-in-five approve of his approach compared to 55 percent who don’t like it.
The public had good things to say about the commander in chief’s relations with European allies. Trump scored positive ratings from the majority of people on his relationships with France, Great Britain, and Germany. He also got a 55 percent approval score for how he has worked with Israel since being elected to the Oval Office more than a year and a half ago.
The telephone survey was conducted among 1,002 adults nationwide and had a 3.9 percentage point margin of error.
