Twinbrook park-and-riders, be warned. Parking at the Twinbrook Metro station will get a little tight in the spring as one-third of the west side parking lot will be cordoned off for construction of a new parking garage.
Actually, this was supposed to have started by now. But the garage’s builder, JBG Cos., is behind on its building plan for the whole Twinbrook redevelopment and is stalling until it reaches a new deal with Metro. If the Metro board approves the deal, JBG will start excavation on the garage mostly likely in May and finished in 2012, according to Metro’s real estate director, Steve Goldin.
The garage will take up one-third of Metro’s surface parking lot on the west side of the tracks. During construction west side parkers who don’t get to the station early enough for a spot can maneuver around to the east side of the tracks (which, because of the station layout is easier said than done as it takes several minutes to navigate back to the main road and around to the other side).
Metro will operate the garage, which JBG is building so it can use the rest of the lot’s surface for development. The developer plans to do the same thing with the east side of the surface lot at a later date.
