Bobby Jindal won’t be able to confront Donald Trump directly when the Republican 2016 candidates meet Wednesday, but that isn’t deterring him from attacking the GOP front-runner head on.
During an appearance on “America’s Newsroom” Monday, Jindal unleashed a new line of attacks against the GOP front-runner, with particular emphasis on his business career. The Louisiana governor called Trump the “nation’s leading expert in bankruptcy,” adding further that he is a “natural fit” for Washington D.C. in that sense.
“Donald Trump’s got a unique platform to run for president. He has declared bankruptcy more often than any major corporation in America in the last 30 years,” Jindal said. “Think about that — that is a unique way to run for president of the United States.
“But maybe it makes sense,” Jindal continued. “What is bankruptcy? Bankruptcy is having more debt than you can afford to pay back. Well, that describes Washington. They’re always on the verge of bankruptcy, they’re always spending more money than we have.
“Maybe sending the nation’s leading expert in bankruptcy is a natural fit for Washington D.C.,” said Jindal, who is ranked 13th in the Washington Examiner‘s latest power rankings. “That’s a unique platform to try to run for president.” Trump is ranked first.
The latest attack comes on the heels of Jindal’s initial broadside at the GOP front-runner. During a speech at the National Press Club Thursday, Jindal panned Trump as a “narcissist” and dismissed his faith, which also came under fire last Monday from 2016 hopeful Dr. Ben Carson.
“You may have recently seen that after Trump said the Bible is his favorite book, he couldn’t name a single Bible verse or passage that meant something to him,” Jindal said. “And we all know why, because it’s all just a show, and he hasn’t ever read the Bible. But you know why he hasn’t read the Bible? Because he’s not in it.”
Jindal is slated to participate in the undercard debate on Wednesday at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, Calif. According to the RealClearPolitics polling average, Jindal is in 13th place with a paltry 0.4 percent support nationally. In Iowa, Jindal sits in 11th and garners only 2.7 percent support.
