‘The Daily Show’ dubs Florida “the worst state” following Zimmerman verdict

Florida’s motto can no longer be “The Sunshine State,” according to Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.” Following the not guilty verdict in the Zimmerman trial, it must now call itself “The Worst State.”

Fill-in host John Oliver lashed out at the entire state for the outcome of the Sanford, Fla., case that decided the fate of the man who shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

“Wait, what? How could you possibly… You’ve got to be kid… There is no way… I can’t… Oh my God,” Oliver said in regard to the verdict, and then decided to name the segment of the show that phrase.

Oliver argued that the case had racial undertones — “if not racial only-tones” — and ridiculed Zimmerman’s defense attorney, Mark O’Mara, for saying Zimmerman would never have been charged with a crime if he was black.

“Yes, I suppose the one thing our justice system is notorious for is how lenient it is on black people,” Oliver retorted.

Oliver also condemned the Stand Your Ground laws as “stupid” and rebuked Florida for not working to change the law — or even apply it equally in all cases.

“Okay, Florida, just because you are shaped like some combination of a gun and a d**k doesn’t mean you have to act that way!” the host exclaimed.
