He did not beat his ex-wife, as alleged, and now a former Carroll County Commissioner candidate is suing, claiming her lies ignited a media whirlwind that destroyed his campaign and cost him thousands of dollars.
“If someone thinks you beat your wife, they don?t want to do business with you,” Christopher Eric Bouchat said. “It?s sad that people can do that to you in a divorce.”
Bouchat, who lost his bid for the commission last year, filed a lawsuit Thursday in Carroll County Circuit Court against April Elizabeth Shook, seeking $250,000 in damages.
Shook claimed Bouchat physically and verbally assaulted her in the divorce case, which became official in July, but Judge Thomas Stansfield threw that out when no evidence could be produced, Bouchat said.
