Sanders wins first N.H. superdelegate

Bernie Sanders won the support of his first superdelegate in New Hampshire on Thursday, even though he won 60 percent of the vote in the state’s primary back in February.

“I am announcing today that I will be voting for Bernie Sanders as my role as a superdelegate at the convention in July,” Martha Fuller Clark announced on Thursday.

She added, “The reason for that first and foremost is that we saw that 60 percent of the vote in the New Hampshire primary went for Bernie, 70 percent of the voters in my district went for Bernie. And I feel obligated to support that vote at the convention.”

Six of the state’s eight superdelegates have backed Clinton throughout the entire primary process, but Fuller Clark and New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman Ray Buckley remained neutral, until today. Buckley still has yet to announce which candidate he will support.

Fuller Clark explained that the Democratic National Committee informed her she could not stay neutral until the convention, and she hoped that her announcement could help bring unity to the split party and bring some of Sanders’ key issues to the party platform.

But, Fuller Clark admitted that her vote will probably only matter on the first round of voting on the convention floor and that “ultimately I am convinced that our delegation will vote unanimously for the nominee.”
