Bureaucrats’ paperwork mess released Seattle cop-killer

Published

Remember Maurce Clemmons? He’s the guy who walked into a Lakewood, Washington, coffee shop a few weeks ago and killed four policemen. Former Arkansas governor and possible 2012 GOP presidential aspirant Mike Huckabee got lots of unwanted national publicity when Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire claimed Clemmons had been improperly released by parole officials in the Republican’s state.

But now it turns out, according to documents obtained by Evergreen Freedom Foundation investigative reporter Piper Scott that a bureaucratic foulup in Washington also played a major role in allowing Clemmons to remain free. The documents Scott obtained revealed that Clemmons, a 37-year-old Black, was confused with a 58-year-old white man, Terry Gene Hamilton, who was under official supervision on a burglary conviction.
