Police are searching for an armed robber who broke into a home and several vehicles Sunday night, rattling a quiet neighborhood in rural northern Carroll County.

This is the second home invasion this year in Carroll, following the trend of one or two there a year, said Detective Sgt. Chuck Moore.

A man wielding an unknown tool demanded money from a female victim after he entered the house in the 1000 block of Humbert Schoolhouse Road near Silver Run through the basement?s rear sliding door around 10:30 p.m., state police from the Westminster barracks said.

A helicopter and K-9 unit searched for the robber, who fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspect is described as a white male in his late teens or early 20s, 5-foot-9 with a thin build and wearing a black sweatshirt, blue jeans and a red bandanna over his face.

Police said they believe the robbery is linked to other reports of vehicles ransacked the same night on the same road and in the 5000 block of Biemiller Road.

Barbara Ollis, another Humbert Schoolhouse Road resident, awoke Monday morning to discover her recreation vehicle, garage and her husband?s truck were targeted.

“It?s kind of a shock to your system,” said Ollis, who had lived 16 years without incident in the country community 11 miles north of Westminster.

Residents often leave their cars unlocked in the neighborhood.

She found a hammer and the RV?s cabinet doors open, but couldn?t tell yet whether anything had been stolen.

Police are still searching for the man who wrapped his face with white gauze and broke into a Sykesville home Aug. 15.
