Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) desperately needs your money — and to punctuate his plea, he’s using well-known Shrek character Puss in Boots.
In a fundraising email sent on Wednesday, the Florida congressman nearly begged for supporters to become monthly donors. The email featured the subject line “Please help. Seriously,” and under the featured photo of the feline character was the caption, “This Kitty Wants You To Help Our Campaign.”
Grayson lamented not having wealthy donors like the Koch brothers or lobbyists.
“The Koch Brothers spent $2 million to defeat me in 2010,” Grayson wrote in the email. “Corporate lobbyists chipped in another $2.5 million. The Democratic Party gave me nothing. So what I say – all I can say – is this: ‘My most important contributor is YOU.'”
Grayson, who is up for re-election in November 2014, recently sent out another email comparing the Tea Party to the Ku Klux Klan. He received heat from both sides of the aisle for his comparison, but refused to apologize for it.
It’s unclear whether or not Grayson received permission from DreamWorks Animation to use an image of Puss in Boots in his email. Regardless, his decision to use a furry cat instead of a burning cross is probably wise.
