Ben Carson to endorse Donald Trump

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who was the most recent candidate to bow out of the presidential race in March, announced on Thursday that he plans to endorse Donald Trump.

According to The Washington Post, the endorsement is set for Friday morning at Trump’s private club, the Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, Florida.

In an interview with Fox News radio on Thursday, Carson said there is more to Trump than the media has portrayed.

“There’s the Donald Trump that you see on television and who gets out in front of big audiences, and there’s the Donald Trump behind the scenes,” Carson said. “They’re not the same person.”

“One’s very much an entertainer, and one is actually a thinking individual,” he continued.

Carson assured listeners that Trump was more conservative than many of his critics claim, and more reasonable.

He doubled down on his praise for the billionaire on Twitter Friday morning, saying that Trump could change Washington D.C.

The endorsement may not mean much, Carson was in dead last place in nearly every poll before he dropped out. Nonetheless, with winner-take-all primaries approaching, his small but devoted fan base could help drive Trump over the edge in Florida and Ohio.

According to the Real Clear Politics polling average, Carson was polling about five percent in Florida and the last Quinnipiac poll he was included in had him at 5 percent in Ohio as well.

Perhaps another reason Carson plans to endorse Trump is because the billionaire stood beside him when he fumbled the entrance to the ABC debate.

Stand with Carson and he’ll stand with you.
