If I had waited just one day to write my article about how Carly Fiorina has been gaining praise across the country but still has not been able to crack the top ten in polls, I wouldn’t have had to write it at all.
Because Thursday morning Quinnipiac University released a national poll showing that Fiorina has, in fact, broken into the top 10 list of GOP presidential candidates. Only the top 10 candidates will be allowed to take the stage at the first debate in August.
Fiorina is tied for 10th in the poll with Ohio Gov. John Kasich, both with 2 percent of the vote. But it’s the first time that Fiorina has made the cut.
Five GOP candidates tied for first place, with each receiving 10 percent of the vote — Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Mike Huckabee, Marco Rubio and Scott Walker. Sen. Rand Paul brought in 7 percent of the vote, Sen. Ted Cruz received 6 percent, Donald Trump received 5 percent (seriously), New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie came in with 4 percent to round out the top 10 (or top 11, since Fiorina and Kasich tied).
Quinnipiac also found that Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton has lost some of her market share in the past month, dropping slightly from 60 percent of the vote to 57 percent of the vote now that Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has entered the race. Sanders received 15 percent of the vote, while Vice President Joe Biden received 9 percent.
So at least we know Fiorina’s media blitz is working, however slightly. It’s still early.
