Trump: ‘We were let down’ by Democrats and a ‘few Republicans’ on healthcare

President Trump ripped Democrats and “a few” Senate Republicans on Tuesday for the upper chamber’s failure to move on a healthcare replacement bill.

“We were let down by all of the Democrats and a few Republicans. Most Republicans were loyal, terrific & worked really hard. We will return!” Trump wrote on Twitter Tuesday morning.

The future of Obamacare remains unclear as Republicans leading Congress have no clear path forward for changing the law. Senate Republican leaders said they would push a bill to repeal the law completely now, and then follow that up with a plan to replace the law.

“As I have always said, let ObamaCare fail and then come together and do a great healthcare plan. Stay tuned!” Trump added Tuesday, even though Trump has backed a “repeal and replace” plan for the last several months.

Trump hosted some Senate Republicans for dinner at the White House Monday evening to woo support for a full repeal of Obamacare.

“Republicans should just REPEAL failing ObamaCare now & work on a new Healthcare Plan that will start from a clean slate,” Trump tweeted following the dinner. “Dems will join in!”

Shortly after Republicans left 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Republican Sens. Jerry Moran of Kansas and Mike Lee of Utah announced they opposed open debate of the current bill being considered by the Senate.

Later, Trump called for more Republican victories in 2018’s midterm elections in order to help his agenda advance in Congress.

“With only a very small majority, the Republicans in the House & Senate need more victories next year since Dems totally obstruct, no votes!” Trump tweeted.
