WATCH: Record monsoon season hits Las Vegas, flooding strip and casinos


Las Vegas is in the midst of its wettest monsoon season in 10 years, with 1.28 inches of rain so far.

Thursday night saw 0.58 inches according to the National Weather Service on Friday.

This rainfall resulted in the city’s strip flooding with water, forcing cars to drive through inches of rain. Las Vegas has been under major flash flood warnings off and on for the last two weeks, along with northwest Arizona and far eastern California.

As a result, the Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino was also flooded Thursday by the rain. The building remains open for hotel and restaurant reservations despite the leaks in its roof.


Footage of one Vegas parking garage that flooded with water on Thursday was also shared on social media.


Monsoon season runs from June 15 through Sept. 10. The wettest monsoon season was in 2012 with 3.63 inches of rain the entire season. Nearby Harry Reid International Airport has reported 15 days of thunder since the start of the season.

“And we’ve still got a month and a half left to add to our total!” Las Vegas NWS tweeted Friday.

The airport serves as the meteorological observation point for the NWS.
