Petition urging Disney to rehire Mandalorian actress garners more than 40,000 signatures: ‘Hollywood has struck down another conservative’

A petition urging Disney to rehire Mandalorian actress Gina Carano has garnered more than 40,000 signatures.

“Gina Carano, the actress who plays Cara Dune in the Disney+ show, ‘The Mandalorian,’ has been fired by Disney. Why? Because of cancel culture and Twitter,” the Change.org petition, “Disney: Rehire Gina Carano,” reads.

Carano was fired by Lucasfilm, which produces the popular Mandalorian series, last week after comparing Republicans today to the treatment of Jews in Nazi Germany in an Instagram post that has since been deleted.

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” a spokesperson for Lucasfilm said in a statement. “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Carano, who is also a former MMA fighter, has been a supporter of former President Donald Trump, voiced views against face masks, and signaled she believes there was fraud in the 2020 presidential election.

“Her recent (now deleted) tweet responsible was one expressing her dismay for the way conservatives are being treated by liberals today, and to do this, she compared it to the way Jews were being treated by Nazis in World War II,” the petition continued.

“I’m not going to say she was right or wrong with her views, but firing celebrities over their political views has been happening way too often, and once again, Hollywood has struck down another conservative.”

“To the fans of ‘The Mandalorian,’ please. Speak out. Disney needs to stop the trend of firing actors for controversial tweets, and just keep treating the fans to a great show. Rehire Gina Carano. Firing her isn’t justice,” it concluded.

Since the firing, toy company Hasbro has reportedly stopped plans on creating more action figures of the Mandalorian character Carano played, Cara Dune.

The firing also sparked some conservatives to ditch their Disney+ subscriptions.

“Disney has cancelled @ginacarano, so I’m cancelling my @disneyplus. We need to stop giving these people our money and we must build new franchises,” political commentator Dave Rubin tweeted last week.
