Oct. 17: Bike DC, Washington, 8 a.m. Cyclists can tour the monuments and other major Washington-area sites on streets without cars. There is a 12-mile family ride as well as a 25-mile course. Info: www.waba.org

Oct 25: DCCX Cyclocross race, Armed Forces Retirement Home, Washington. This race, hosted by the D.C. Mountain Bike Team, is the only cyclocross race in Washington. The course will have barriers, tough climbs, open grass, tough turns around trees and a cobblestone path. Proceeds are donated to help veterans living at the facility. Info: www.dcmtb.com

INLINE SKATING

Oct. 16: Beginner skate, downtown Washington, 7:15 p.m. This weekly skate (through daylight saving time) sponsored by the Washington Area Roadskaters begins at the White House and keeps an easy pace through mostly flat terrain. Info: www.skatedc.org

RUNNING

Oct. 17: Inaugural 5K Fit-n-Fun Run, Hains Point, Washington, 8 a.m. The Boy Scouts are hosting this race around East Potomac Park. Info: www. boyscouts-ncac.org

Oct. 17: Brain Aneurysm Awareness 8K, Reston, 9 a.m. This race starts at South Lakes High School and is held in memory of Timothy Susco, a 1999 graduate of the school who was working on the TV show “Heroes” when he died of a brain aneurysm in 2008. Oct. 25: Patriot Masters Sprint Classic, George Mason University, 10 a.m. This is the 10th year for the annual fall sprint meet, in a 25-yard pool. Fastest man and woman awards will be given based on performance in the 25-yard events (fly, back, breast and free). Info: www.pvmasters.org
