Citing Security Concerns, Trump Declines to Visit Rhode Island

Rhode Island is officially a “safe space.”

According to the Providence Journal, Donald Trump has opted not to visit the Ocean State in the run-up to its presidential primary, on account of security concerns. Trump supporter State Rep. Joseph Trillo, noting that local college students planned to protest the real estate mogul on his visit, told the Journal that Trump’s campaign is “concerned about the security . . . it would be very expensive to hire that much police protection, and it may not be worth it.”

Chalk up another victory to the forces of censoriousness.

Whether or not Trump ends up touching down in Rhode Island, there’s a strong chance that Little Rhody will end up as one of his best primary states. The state’s demographics are similar to those of Massachusetts, where Trump dominated. (Though don’t tell that to Boston’s newspaper of record). Rhode Island has also suffered mightily from the deindustrialization that Trump bemoans. And as for those “poorly educated” voters that Trump says he loves – my home state has them in spades.

There’s still one last Trump card to entice the tycoon to visit Rhode Island though: Let him know there’s a truly excellent real estate investment opportunity in the heart of downtown Providence.
