Florida Rep. Kat Cammack said that conservative employees of the Walt Disney Company are trying to speak up in favor of the state’s controversial Parent Rights in Education Act but are not being heard.
“They feel like they’re constantly drowned out, told to sit down and shut up and be quiet because it doesn’t fit this liberal progressive agenda,” Cammack told Newsmax’s Wake Up America on Wednesday.
Cammack said Disney is on the “wrong side of history” with its opposition to this legislation, noting that “53% of Democrats support this legislation and parents across the country agree.”
The Republican representative also noted that Disney’s stocks are on the decline, suggesting the company’s executives will have to explain themselves soon.
“They are going to have to answer to their shareholders about why they continue to push an agenda that has nothing to do with their core business model,” Cammack stated, adding that families have enjoyed Disney’s parks and products for their imaginative innocence.

When asked if a different governor besides Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis would change Disney or the Left’s opposition, Cammack said DeSantis is seen as a threat.
“[DeSantis] stands for freedom. He stands for liberty. He stands up for parents who stand up for small business, and that is a huge threat to the liberal progressive agenda,” Cammack said. “He wants parents to make the best decisions for their kids. He wants families to make decisions for their medical, health, and well-being. He wants business owners to thrive. This is 100% a political agenda.”
Disney employees are beginning to speak out. Gary Lucia, a gay man and Disney employee, wrote an opinion piece for Outspoken, an organization in support of freedom of thought and opinion.
“As a gay man, I am fed up with being lumped into the umbrella term LGBTQIA+. I am tired of organizations and so-called allies who have taken it upon themselves to speak for me,” writes Gary Lucia. https://t.co/WvEJb2BymY

“I support the Parental Rights in Education Act and feel the need to go on record that I do not agree with the Disney LGBTQ+ leaders and groups that purport to speak on my behalf,” Lucia wrote. “There is no such thing as an LGBTQ+ community. There can’t be, because within those letters are obvious conflicts — people who are same-sex attracted versus people who deny the biological reality of sex.”
Cammack also commented on the hypocrisy of Disney doing business in countries that have anti-LGBT laws, noting it is pushing parents and families away from the company.
.@Disney talk is cheap! Disney, want to show real solidarity for LGBTQ rights? Stop doing business in nations that violate LGBTQ rights! ???️? @LogCabinGOP @GetOutspokenUSA pic.twitter.com/78aWqIIEGz

“[Parents] are tired of the hypocrisy — this double standard,” Cammack said. “[Disney executives] want to say, ‘Oh, we care about the LGBT community.’ No, they don’t. They just want to do what they think is in the best sense for their current woke leadership.”
