FBI investigating Trump supporters allegedly harassing Biden campaign bus

The FBI is investigating an incident last week involving a group of trucks touting Trump flags allegedly harassing a Biden campaign bus.

“FBI San Antonio is aware of the incident and investigating. No further information available at this time,” an FBI spokesman said in a brief statement to CNN on Sunday about the Friday incident. Videos of the event show a “Trump Train,” a group of pro-Trump motorists driving together, surrounding the bus with their vehicles and slowed the bus down to about 20 mph in the middle of a highway. An official with the Biden campaign said the vehicles attempted to run the bus off the road. They claimed there were nearly 100 vehicles around the bus.

No one was hurt, but the official said staffers in the bus were “rattled.” Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris were not on the bus, but Wendy Davis, the former state senator challenging Rep. Chip Roy to represent Texas’s 21st Congressional District, was reportedly on the bus.

Staffers on the bus called 911 during the incident, and local law enforcement escorted the bus to its location.

In a Saturday night tweet, President Trump tweeted a video from the incident, along with the text “I LOVE TEXAS!”

He later referenced the incident at one of his five campaign rallies on Sunday, saying the vehicles were “protecting [Biden’s] bus yesterday because they’re nice.”

Speaking on CBS News on Sunday morning, Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel refused to comment when asked to responded to Trump retweeting his implicit support of the video.

“You know, I haven’t seen that part of the video,” McDaniel said. “I saw a little bit of the Trump supporters surrounding the Biden bus. Certainly you don’t want harm, and we shouldn’t be hurting other people. So the president would not endorse that. But I have — I can’t comment on that because I haven’t seen the whole video.”

By Sunday night, Trump tweeted that the FBI should be placing its focus elsewhere.
