Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., signed a T-shirt poking fun at Judge Merrick Garland, depicting the failed Supreme Court nominee in the clouds with the quote “gone but not forgotten.”
Garland, chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, was nominated by President Barack Obama to serve as a Supreme Court justice in 2016 following the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.

However, the Senate did not hold a vote on his nomination, and therefore, Garland never got confirmed. McConnell, who was Senate majority leader at the time, said any nominations should come from the candidate who won the 2016 election.
That vacancy was filled by President Trump’s nominee Neil Gorsuch in 2017.
The photo was circulated on social media, but it is uncertain when and where the photo was taken. McConnell’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Washington Examiner.
So far, Trump has nominated two judges — Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh — who were both confirmed by the Senate to serve on the Supreme Court.
