An organization that represents the largest law enforcement agencies in the nation is warning that the partial government shutdown could cause harm to public safety if not ended soon.
“The ability of the nation’s state and local law enforcement community to prevent, disrupt, and solve criminal activity/acts of terror depends heavily on fully functional federal partners. To be clear, the federal shutdown needs to end before we suffer unintentional consequence,” the Major Cities Chiefs Association tweeted Thursday.

The government shutdown is stretching into its fourth week, with Democrats and the White House both refusing to budge. President Trump has demanded funding for his proposed wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, which Democrats view as unnecessary.
Thousands of government employees have been working without pay, including TSA, Secret Service agents, and Homeland Security employees.
The Major Cities Chiefs Association also retweeted Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo, who expressed disappointment in members of the Coast Guard not receiving their regularly scheduled paycheck last week.
“I’m sorry everyone,” Acevedo wrote, “but as a patriot this is upsetting.”
