Had a source confirm report this afternoon by TSN’s Darren Dreger that Capitals defenseman Dennis Wideman was released from a local hospital on Monday. The team lists Wideman – out with a right leg hematoma and the effects from compartment syndrome – as week-to-week. Washington general manager George McPhee told ESPN 980 last week that Wideman suffered no muscle damage after the hit from Carolina’s Tuomo Ruutu on March 29. Had another source tell me today that it’s possible Wideman could be back in three weeks, which is about as good news as the team could expect on that front. Wideman spent at least 11 days in the hospital recuperating, but still has plenty of rehab work left to do to get back on the ice in that time frame.
