Trying not to Wake up after good start

In 59 years of ACC football, this is the first time Wake Forest has started 3-0 in the league. It comes after the Demon Deacons were picked to finish last in the ACC Atlantic. Coach Jim Grobe knows not to get too excited, especially with No. 19 Virginia Tech (5-1) up next. “We’ve got seven really good football teams left on our schedule, and maybe the best one’s coming in this week,” Grobe said.

Saturday’s game in Winston-Salem will match a pair of sophomore quarterbacks — Virginia Tech’s Logan Thomas and Wake Forest’s Tanner Price — who are fast emerging. Thomas completed 23 of 25 passes for 310 yards and three touchdowns and capped the winning march in a 38-35 win over Miami with a 19-yard scoring run. Price ranks third in the ACC in passing (270.4 yards a game) after throwing for three touchdowns in a 35-30 victory over No. 23 Florida State.

With Virginia Tech so ravaged on defense that it had to move reserve guard Courtney Prince across the line of scrimmage, expect a shootout like the ones played last week by both teams.
