Armstrong: Born to run?

In the latest bit of musical chairs in the Virginia General Assembly, House of Delegates Democratic Leader Ward Armstrong announced Thursday that he’s running for re-election – in a different district.

During the once-a-decade redistricting process, the General Assembly moved Armstrong’s 10th District in southern Virginia up to one that includes part of Loudoun County and pushed Armstrong into the same district as Del. Don Merricks, R-Pittsylvania.

Armstrong, though, said Thursday that he would run for re-election in the 9th District, which is comprised of Patrick County, most of Franklin County, and the western half of Henry County. That district is currently represented by Republican Del. Charles Poindexter.

In prepared remarks announcing his candidacy, Armstrong stressed his record as a champion for southside and southwest Virgina, and his focus on jobs, education, transportation, and creeping electric rates.

He has also indicated an interest in a statewide run for office in the future.
