Weigman shines in Spalding win

Junior right-hander Stephanie Weigman struck out 13 batters and allowed just one hit in Archbishop Spalding?s win over the Institute of Notre Dame Tuesday afternoon at Randazzo Park in Severn.

The Cavaliers improved to 6-1 with the victory, keeping them within striking distance of first-place Seton Keough (7-0) in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference.

IND?s Stephanie Vogel was the lone batter to solve Weigman, although the hard-throwing hurler did allow seven baserunners in her seven innings of work.

The Cavaliers have just four seniors on the roster. After this spring, the Spalding softball machine sends Lauren O?Malley to an improving UMBC program, while classmate Brittany Lounge, who is out for the season with an arm injury, is destined for Salisbury. Seniors Fallon Struss and Katie Gessner remain undecided on their collegiate destinations.

Spalding, along with many other Maryland softball powerhouses, is in action Saturday at Randazzo Park in Severn for the Cavalier Classic.
