Americans are tired of listening to Donald Trump and Carly Fiorina brag about their business accomplishments, according to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
Both the real estate mogul and former technology CEO touted their track records during Wednesday night’s debate and launched several attacks against each other’s success.
“She can’t run any of my companies,” Trump said of Fiorina.
At one point, a fuming Christie interjected, calling on both candidates to return their attention to explaining how they would help middle-income earners in the U.S.
“While I’m as entertained as anyone by this personal back-and-forth about the history of Donald and Carly’s career, the 55-year-old construction worker out in that audience tonight who doesn’t have a job, who can’t fund his child’s education … I gotta tell you the truth — they could care less about your careers,” Christie, who is number 12 in the Washington Examiner‘s presidential power rankings, said.
“They care about theirs,” he added. “Let’s start talking about that on this stage and stop playing the games.”
“A track record of leadership is not a game,” Fiorina shot back.
“Carly listen, you’ve interrupted everyone else on this stage, but you’re not going to interrupt me,” Christie responded. “The fact is, nobody cares about your careers. Back-and-forth and who did wrong and who did poorly — you’re both successful, congratulations.”
“You know who’s not successful? The middle-class in this country who’s getting plowed over by Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton,” he continued.
“Let’s start talking about that tonight and stop this childish back-and-forth between the two of you,” the Garden State governor said to thunderous applause.
