Well, we all know trends fade over time, causing many to wonder, how long will DC’s cupcake craze last?
That answer is unknown, especially since the cupcake enterprise seems to be challenging that worry by continuing to open up shop in DC.
(Sprinkles Cupcakes, a “cupcakery” that originated in Beverly Hills opened its eleventh location in Georgetown on Mar. 3, locating itself in close proximity to two other well-known cupcake shops: Baked & Wired and Georgetown Cupcakes).
But now, cupcake shops don’t only have time (or their own kind) challenging their existence, they have another delicious dessert bidding them competition: Frozen Yogurt.
Frozen Yogurt, commonly called “Fro-yo” by its consumers, gets its business by promulgating itself as a healthy alternative to ice cream, with nearly the same texture. So, while cupcakeries are multiplying their venues, frozen-yogurt places are adding to their ranks, as well.
Two new frozen yogurt places are “coming soon” to D.C, and with warm weather on the horizon, it is likely that “fro-yo” will be the most desired treat.

According to a tweet by @BarracksRow on Mar. 4, frozen yogurt will be coming soon to the developing Southeast neighborhood. The tweet said, “The ink on the lease is still wet! 703 8th Street has leased to “32 Below”, a frozen yogurt place, will be opening soon!”

This frozen yogurt franchise already has four locations in DC, but will soon be adding a fifth. Now fro-yo fans near the Farragut West metro station will be able to indulge in the sweetened yogurt shop on 19th and M.
Both locations are expected to open by late spring or early summer.
