Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) slammed Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) for posting a tweet seemingly linking her to the suspected gunman at Monday’s mass shooting in Highland Park, Illinois.

Boebert derided Swalwell as “desperate” and targeted him after he tweeted a picture of her holding a rifle alongside an image of the alleged shooter, Robert “Bobby” E. Crimo III, with the caption, “Let’s start drawing straight lines.”

“I get that Eric Swalwell isn’t a fan of our constitutional rights and is desperate to distract from his repeated political failures, but the only straight line that needs to be drawn is from Eric Swalwell to Fang Fang to the Chinese Communist Party,” the congresswoman said in a statement to the Washington Examiner.

Suspected shooter bought multiple guns, planned shooting for weeks: Police

Police did not identify the type of weapon the suspected shooter used on Monday to fire more than 70 rounds into a crowd of parade watchers, but they did say he bought multiple firearms.

The suspected shooter left the city of Highland Park to purchase the high-powered rifles, Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering said on Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday afternoon, police held a press conference to present more information about what they have learned in the last 24 hours.

Updates includes the fact that the shooter had at least two rifles, and he made have had multiple pistols as well, police said.

As of Tuesday afternoon, police said there was no information to suggest the shooter chose Highland Park because of its demographics. There is no evidence to suggest the shooting was racially motivated, police said.

While the shooting wasn’t racially motivated, it was unlikely a random event either, police said.

“We do believe Crimo pre-planned this attack for several weeks,” police said.

As locals celebrated the Fourth of July at Highland Park on Monday morning, a gunman believed to have been perched on a nearby rooftop opened fire, killing at least six people and wounding dozens more.

Robert Crimo, 21, was taken into custody as a person of interest following an extensive manhunt, and it was later revealed that he had posted videos appearing to muse about committing violent acts, including one video from 2021 that appeared to show him driving down a street that appears to be part of the parade route.

“This morning at 10:10 a.m. our community was terrorized by an act of violence that has shaken us to our core,” Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering said after the shooting. “Our hearts go out to the families of the victims during this devastating time. Highland Park mayor says rifle obtained legally by suspected gunman
STEM Highlands Ranch Police
A Douglas County, Colo., Sheriff’s Department vehicle blocks the entrance to the west parking lot of the STEM School Highlands Ranch after a shooting Tuesday, May 7, 2019, in Highlands Ranch, Colo.

The man identified as a person of interest after six were killed and dozens more injured at an Independence Day parade on Monday obtained his firearm legally, Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering said Tuesday.

The high-powered rifle was “legally obtained” by Robert “Bobby” E. Crimo III outside of Highland Park, Illinois, which has a ban on assault weapons, Rotering told NPR’s Leila Fadel.

“He’s not a resident of Highland Park. And he somehow was able to obtain this gun. The fact that he was in our town with it was a breach of our ordinance, but we know that throughout Illinois and Wisconsin and Indiana, neighboring states and so forth, there are far different laws, and he was able to obtain it,” Rotering said.
