V.A. hospital employee sentenced

A former employee of the Veterans Administration Hospital in the District was sentenced to five years in prison for two burglaries at the medical facility.
Anthony Maye, 55, pleaded guilty in August in D.C. to two counts of second-degree burglary.
Maye worked as a janitor at the hospital at 50 Irving St. NW, where he admitted to committing the break-ins.
According to prosecutors, Maye spray-painted video surveillance cameras, pried open several safes and stole the contents. Veterans Administration police executed a search warrant on Maye’s car and found burglary tools, a suspiciously large amount of Metro fare cards, and Metro fare tokens.
One killed in crash near Andrews
Prince George’s County police are investigating a fatal collision near Andrews Air Force Base.
The crash happened around 10 p.m. Sunday at Old Alexandria Ferry Road at Malcolm Road.
The two vehicles were traveling east when for some reason the driver of a 1998 Toyota 4Runner entered the lane of a red pickup truck. The SUV ended up spinning and flipping over, police said, The pickup truck left the road and struck a tree.
The driver of the SUV, Yvonne Walker Cunningham, 51, of Laurel, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver, a 68-year-old man from Upper Marlboro, remains hospitalized, police said.
Speed might have contributed to the crash, police said.
Temple Hills man charged in slaying near Howard U.
A 20-year-old Temple Hills was arrested and charged in the fatal shooting near Howard University.
James Deangelo Sandiage was charged with second-degree murder in the slaying of 20-year-old Keenan Jerel Lee, of Capitol Heights.
At about 10 p.m., Oct. 22, police responded to Georgia Avenue and V Street NW to investigate the sound of gunshots. Police said Lee was standing at 2200 block of Georgia Avenue at the time of the shooting.
