Fire at Atlanta building hosting Sen. Jon Ossoff’s office under investigation

An electrical fire occurred Saturday at a high-rise building in Atlanta that houses the office of Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) among others.

Atlanta Police and Fire Rescue were present at 271 17th street, which also has law offices. Atlanta Fire Rescue reported two people with severe electric shock injuries but could not confirm the cause of the fire. The two injured were electrical contractors performing scheduled maintenance on the 15th floor.

These two contractors are considered in critical condition. One single sprinkler was set off by the subsequent fire.

There are no reported injuries among Ossoff’s staff.

“Our office is grateful to Atlanta Fire and Rescue and all law enforcement who responded today,” Ossoff’s spokesperson told the Washington Examiner. “Senator Ossoff and our team are keeping the injured workers in our prayers.”

So far, no tenants of the building are considered suspects. No arrests have been made.

Tara Murphy, spokesperson for the Atlantic Station, a dining and shopping center near the incident, told the Atlanta-Journal Constitution that there was no explosion. Murphy claimed instead it was an electrical fire that struck the building.
