A majority of travelers this holiday season seem to be hoping for the best but expecting the worst from airlines, according to recent data.
In a recent poll from the Vacationer, 59.23% of respondents said they have little or no confidence that airlines will be able to avoid excessive delays or cancellations this holiday season. About one-third of respondents said they have no confidence at all on the matter, while around one-fourth are just a little confident. Only 6.91% of respondents said they were very confident that airlines will avoid serious delays or cancellations.

Men were more confident about airlines avoiding any serious mishaps at 18.15%, while women were only 13.41% confident on the matter.
This year, 174 million U.S. adults planned to travel for either Thanksgiving, Christmas, or both, marking a slight increase of 6% from last year.
The survey was conducted among 1,013 U.S. adults on Oct. 16, and it has a margin of error of plus or minus-3.142 percentage points.

Some of the low confidence in airlines could be attributed to weather and any impacts it could have on travel, as several states have issued travel advisories due to potential tornadoes or snowfalls in certain areas. New York City Mayor Eric Adams issued a travel advisory for the city on Tuesday ahead of a projected snowstorm.
Those who wish to avoid any serious mishaps with airlines for the holiday season could also opt for the highway, as Sheetz is offering gasoline for under $2 per gallon until the Monday after Thanksgiving. This offer likely will be welcome to those hitting the road after the turkey holiday, as the current national average for gas is $3.281 per gallon, according to AAA.
