Widow charged three decades after husband’s body found beheaded

A woman was charged on Thursday in connection to the unsolved murder of her husband nearly 27 years after his body was found beheaded.

French authorities charged the unidentified widow, 56, with the murder of Christophe Doire, regional prosecutor Eric Neveu said. Officials indicated there could be “other protagonists” in the case, saying she was likely “not alone during this process,” according to a translation provided by CBS News.

“Serious and concurring evidence points to her involvement in the murder of Christophe Doire,” Neveu told reporters. “The investigations must continue to identify and arrest other protagonists.”

The widow made “incoherent” statements and did not give “credible explanations,” the prosecutor added.

The woman has denied any involvement in the death of her husband.

Doire was last seen on Dec. 16, 1985, after he and his wife had an argument and he left to spend the night with his brother. He left his brother’s home just before midnight and went missing for 10 years until hunters found his headless body in a ditch, the report said.

Cases regarding Doire’s death were opened against suspects in 2000 and 2002, but both were dropped. Doire’s body was exhumed in April to conduct new tests.

The widow faces 30 years in prison if convicted.
