Hawley calls for Mayorkas “to be impeached”; Jordan announces investigation into DOJ

The White House declined to comment on Tuesday when pressed on the lawsuit seeking to keep former President Donald Trump off the 2024 election ballot in Colorado. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington filed the lawsuit, which claims that Trump’s action on and leading up to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot disqualifies him from appearing on the ballot. The weeklong trial in the case opened Monday and could provide precedent for disqualifying Trump from winning the presidency.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) announced that the Judiciary Committee launched an investigation into the Department of Justice’s alleged spying on congressional staff and members of Congress. The investigation comes after reports emerged that Jason Foster, Sen. Chuck Grassley’s (R-IA) former chief investigative counsel, had allegedly been spied on by the DOJ. Jordan announced the investigation on Fox News Business on Tuesday.

Hours after a tense exchange between Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, in which the Republican senator called Mayorkas’s performance “despicable,” Hawley said he thinks President Joe Biden’s Cabinet member should “be impeached.” Mayorkas appeared at a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing Tuesday afternoon, where he was grilled about threats to the homeland, including illegal immigration at the southern border and DHS employees’ feelings toward Israel.
