Election Primary Results: June 26, 2018
Tuesday’s primaries will be a test of President Trump’s influence over Republican voters, as he is trying to push Henry McMcMaster over the top in South Carolina’s gubernatorial primary and Rep. Dan Donovan over former Rep. Michael Grimm in New York. Also in New York, Democratic Reps. Joe Crowley and Carolyn Maloney face primary challenges from the Left.
In Utah, Mitt Romney is attempting a political comeback by running for the Republican nomination to succeed longtime Sen. Orrin Hatch. Romney has pledged to be a counterweight to Trump but conservative state Rep. Mike Kennedy forced him into a primary at the state convention.
Maryland Democrats will choose a nominee for the uphill battle against popular Republican incumbent Gov. Larry Hogan. Activist Chelsea Manning is mounting a primary challenge against Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin.
Oklahoma and Colorado voters will be picking nominees for the next governor’s race, as Govs. Mary Fallin and John Hickenlooper are leaving office. Democrats are also hoping to nominate a candidate capable of bumping vulnerable Colorado GOP Rep. Mike Coffman.
