Metro riders who use the Orange, Blue or Red lines should plan ahead before making trips this weekend – or if they have to work on Monday.
The transit agency is planning a track shutdown between L’Enfant Plaza and Eastern Market on the Orange and Blue lines starting at 10 p.m. Friday and running through Monday. That means no trains passsing between those stations; the agency plans to run free shuttle buses between them instead.
Meanwhile, Red Line riders should also expect delays due to trains sharing a single track in two sections over the three-day holiday weekend.
The agency will be shutting down one track between Dupont Circle and Van Ness-UDC as well as between Takoma and Forest Glen. That means 20-30 minute delays as trains take turns sharing the sole open track.
While Monday is a federal holiday to observe Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday, some people may still need to work so they should tack on more time to their existing commute. In addition to the delays from the track work, trains and buses are running on a Saturday schedule despite the rail system opening at 5 a.m.
