Two men have been charged with assault and robbery of a Maryland man who was wearing a “make America great again” hat as he was walking off his dinner over the weekend.
Atsu Mable, a supporter of President Trump and immigrant from Togo, was taking a stroll in Germantown, Md., when two men jumped him, destroyed his headphones, and attempted to take his phone, according to police.
Montgomery County Police said Mable was wearing a “MAGA” hat when he was assaulted, and the two men, Jovan Crawford, 27, and Scott Duncan Roberson, 25, were both charged with robbery, attempted theft, and 2nd degree assault.
During a “Fox and Friends” interview, Mable recalled the two men telling him, “you shouldn’t be wearing that hat, bro” before he was punched to the ground for ignoring them.
Mable said he told the men “this is not your problem — it doesn’t matter — it’s a personal reason,” before the two men destroyed his possessions.
Atsu Mable, who is from Togo, Africa, says he was attacked by three men over the weekend because he was wearing a #MAGA hat.

“I have a message for love — that Jesus said in the Bible that you must love your neighbor, so I still love them,” Mable told Fox News.
“I think whatever happened to me that day should not happen to anybody,” he added.
Mable said he plans on continuing to wear his “MAGA” hat despite the assault.
The alleged incident with Mable is the latest that involves a “MAGA” hat.
A Brazilian woman allegedly accosted a man wearing such a hat at a Mexican restaurant in Massachusetts in February. Afterwards Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced they were planning on deporting the woman, who was an illegal immigrant.
Also this year “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett allegedly faked a hate crime in which he claimed two white males wearing “MAGA” hats assaulted him. Smollett was later charged by Cook County, Ill., prosecutors with 16 felony counts, but charges have since been dropped.
