Hillary Clinton has notched her third union endorsement, snagging another Big Labor nod from Bernie Sanders.
The International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers threw its support behind the former secretary of state Wednesday evening, citing Clinton’s ability to “lead American workers to triumph in the face of today’s hostile political climate, difficult financial times, and relentless attacks against the right to organize.”
“Secretary Clinton understands and champions the issues that concern our members most – from job creation and infrastructure investment to the value of apprenticeship and training programs among many others,” said BAC President James Boland. “Her values and priorities are our values and priorities, and she can count on the support of our members and union now and through the general election.”
The endorsement from the 80,000 member-strong union follows in the footsteps of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and the American Federation of Teachers — the nation’s third-largest labor group — which also went with Clinton.
Sanders and Clinton have been going head-to-head in an effort to secure union support for their respective presidential bids. Sanders so far only has the backing of the National Nurses United, the nation’s largest organization of nurses.
