Carrie Underwood must show courage against the cancel culture mob

Carrie Underwood has fallen victim to the latest cries of the cancel culture mob that roams wild and free on Twitter. The famous singer allegedly liked a tweet from conservative pundit Matt Walsh. Walsh’s tweet was a reference to a speech he gave to the Nashville School Board against wearing masks.

Walsh sent out a series of tweets mocking the outrage and sarcastically encouraging Underwood to denounce him. He also sarcastically questioned how long it would be before Underwood denounced him because of the reaction on social media. However, at this juncture, Carrie Underwood should show courage. She should stand up to the mob and establish the precedent that everyone seems to learn in grade school but forget once they are a celebrity: Stand up to a bully, and the bully will stop harassing you.

Underwood is a massive talent and even a bigger star. If there ever were a celebrity to take a stand against cancel culture, Underwood would indeed be the perfect candidate. She has a long, established history of success. She is, well, up until today, popular and generally well liked. She has won a plethora of awards. She has sold over 70 million records and is the sixth highest-certified female artist of all time. She could stand up to the cancel culture bullies and show the world everything will be OK.

Like most faux outrage against celebrities, Underwood faces backlash by the pro-mask, pro-vaccine crowd on social media. However, she needs to not give in to the mob and stand her ground. Underwood has every right to have her own opinion on things. If she gives in and offers some formal apology, then she will empower the bullies to keep on these types of tactics and cancel whomever they disagree with. Mostly, if not all, these people canceled tend to be those with ideas that go against contemporary left-wing orthodoxy. Underwood has the potential to be a savior of sorts in this raucous environment.

By standing up to the mob, Underwood can begin to set a trend and new precedent in which people will be empowered to speak their minds. She will also realize that any outrage and criticism, if there are any, will only be temporary, and the incident will be completely forgotten about in a short amount of time. All she has to do is just not merely genuflect to the mob, and she will win.

Why most victims of cancel culture do not realize this is inherently foolish. It is also frustrating. Too often, the targets of the woke mob usually exhibit cowardice and weakness and submit to their ridiculous outrage and demands. If more of these people fought back and stood up for their beliefs instead of taking the coward’s way out, these bullying tactics would eventually stop because they would no longer be effective. All it takes is one person to take a stand. Then, others will follow.

Will Underwood be that person? That is the question. Realistically, she probably does not even need to fight back in any way. Ignoring or a refusal to comment on the outrage and criticism will be just as effective at this point. Any response besides an apology or timid denouncement will be a step in the right direction against the woke mob and leftist bullies on social media. Here is to hoping that Underwood has the intestinal fortitude to do so.
