House Freedom Caucus wants new effort at full Obamacare repeal

The conservative House Freedom Caucus pounced on the potential demise of the Senate health bill by calling for a new effort to fully repeal Obamacare.

“Time for full repeal of #Obamacare—let’s put the same thing on President Trump’s desk that we put on President Obama’s desk,” tweeted Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C.

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, added on Twitter “no more waiting. Americans sent us here 2 repeal Obamacare.”

The tweets came less than an hour after Sens. Mike Lee, R-Utah, and Jerry Moran, R-Kan., announced their opposition to the Senate bill. Their opposition means the GOP doesn’t have the votes to advance the healthcare bill after Sens. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and Susan Collins, R-Maine, announced their opposition last month.

Lee is perturbed that the bill doesn’t fully repeal Obamacare’s regulations on insurers and leaves in too many of Obamacare’s taxes.

The Freedom Caucus originally scuttled a House version of partial Obamacare repeal back in March because the health bill didn’t repeal the law’s insurer mandates. A compromise was reached where states could opt out of certain mandates, including preventing insurers from charging sicker people more money.
