Miramar, Florida, Mayor Wayne Messam raised just $5 for his presidential bid in the third quarter of 2019.
Messam received only one contribution totaling $5 and spent $0 on his campaign in this quarter, according to his Federal Election Commission filing. Because he didn’t spend any money on his campaign, the mayor still has $31,151 on hand from the previous quarter, including his first-quarter haul.
The dismal fundraising effort puts Messam in last place of the major Democratic candidates who have announced. Messam has failed to qualify for any of the 2020 presidential debates.
He is one of three mayors to enter the 2020 race, along with South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.
De Blasio dropped out of the race in September. Buttigieg, unlike Messam, continues to tout some of the largest fundraising hauls of any of the 2020 candidates, bringing in $24.8 million in the third quarter.
